The mountains in winter are an altogether different experience. They are wildly challenging and thrilling. They brim with an exquisite silence and beauty that transcends anything other seasons offer. The crunch of fresh snow on an unmarked white carpet, cliffs dripping with human-sized icicles and gullies gripped by frost are but a taste of the treasures that await the winter adventurer.
By the end of this 5 day winter skills course, you will be fully equipped to tackle the realm of snow.
Gain the knowledge to safely traverse a winter mountainscape through lessons in winter navigation, avalanche awareness, use of crampons and an ice axe.
Explore Glencoe under a blanket of white. There are several iconic munros on the menu: Buachaille Etive Mor, Ben Nevis, Bidean nam Bain and Stob Ban.
Accommodation in nearby Fort William with transport arranged.
Maximum group size of 7 (including our fully-qualified, winter mountain leader Mike), meaning excellent 1-to-1 tuition.
Day 1 & 2 - Introduction to winter skills
The first couple of days will be spent practising and honing the skills nececessary to stay safe on a winter mountain. We will cover:
Winter walking equipment & tactics.
Walking on snow: kicking and cutting steps.
Crampon skills in ascent, descent and across the slope.
Ice axe skills to aid walking: self belay and self arrest.
Winter mountain navigation.
Day 3 & 4 - Guided winter walking
Guided ascents (weather permitting) of one or two munros: Buachaille Etive Mor, Ben Nevis, Bidean nam Bain or Stob Ban.
Focus on refining efficient movement, avalanche awareness/avoidance and winter mountain navigation.
If weather thwarts our efforts to ascend, we will look at building snow holes and more in-depth snow pack analysis for avalanche assessment.
Day 5- Supervised self-guided walk
Here, all your new skills will be put into practice. If the leader feels confident in the groups' abilities, this final day will allow the group to carry out and plan a walk with any necessary support. This will give you a real taste for planning your next adventure and complete your training. You're ready for winter!

All bookings are made with Scott Norris trading as Radventures. By booking a trip with us you are deemed to have agreed to these Booking Conditions (which constitutes the entire agreement between you and us) and your booking will be accepted by us on this basis.
Our trips are guaranteed to depart once they have one fully paid traveller unless minimum group size specifically states otherwise.
We may cancel a trip at any time prior to departure if, due to terrorism, natural disasters, political instability or other external events it is not viable for us to operate the planned itinerary.
If we cancel your trip, you can transfer amounts paid to an alternate departure date (if offered) or receive a full refund. In circumstances where the cancellation is due to external events outside our reasonable control refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs.
We are not responsible for any incidental expenses that you may have incurred as a result of your booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance excess or non-refundable flights. Travel insurance, which covers cancellation costs (detailed below), is reccomended.
The deposit is non returnable or transferable if the candidate cancels. It secures you, as the candidate, a place within the trip.
Cancelation by the candidate before 6 weeks means all payment made over the price of the deposit returned.
Cancelation by the candidate from 6 weeks to one day before the trip means we will retain the deposit or 50% of the total booking cost - whichever is greater.
Cancelation on the day before or on the first day of the trip or during the trip means no payments are to be returned.
If we accept your booking we will issue a confirmation invoice through Stripe.
A contract will exist between us from the date this confirmation invoice is issued.
Unless otherwise agreed between you and Scott Norris trading as Radventures, the due date is 56 days before the beginning of the trip. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled unless other arrangements have been explicitly made in written form between you and Scott Norris trading as Radventures.
Our trip prices are subject to variable and seasonal pricing, both of which are standard practice within the travel industry.
This means our trip prices may vary at any time in accordance with demand, market conditions and availability.
It is likely that different passengers on the same trip have been charged different prices.
Your best option if you like the price you see is to book at that time.
Once you have received a quote the price will be locked in provided you pay the required deposit prior to the quote’s expiry. Any reduced pricing or discounts that may become available after you have paid your deposit will not apply. If you wish to cancel your booking to take advantage of a cheaper price, full cancellation conditions apply.
The most up to date pricing is available on our website. Note that prices may vary depending on which currency the booking is made.
We reserve the right to impose surcharges up to 56 days before departure due to unfavourable changes in exchange rates, increases in airfares or other transportation costs, increases in local operator costs, taxes, or if government action should require us to do so. In such instances, we will be responsible for any amount up to 2% of the trip price and you will be responsible for the balance. If any surcharge results in an increase of more than 10% of the trip price you may cancel the booking within 14 days of notification of the surcharge and obtain a full refund. Should the cost of your trip decrease by more than 2% due to the changes mentioned above then any refund due will be paid to you. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the cost of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. Please note that a surcharge may be applied to all purchases made by credit card.
In order for us to confirm your travel arrangements you must provide all requested details with the balance of the trip price.
Necessary details vary by trip; they include but are not limited to full name as per passport, date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport issue and expiry date and any pre-existing medical conditions you have which may affect your ability to complete your travel arrangements.

Details of inclusions and exclusions are listed in the specific trip's web page.

Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond the duration of the trip.

Travel insurance is mandatory for all our travellers and should be taken out at the time of booking.
Your travel insurance must provide cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses and emergency repatriation with a recommended minimum coverage of US$200,000 for each of the categories of cover.
We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment, personal liability and loss of luggage and personal effects.
You must provide your travel insurance policy number and the insurance company's 24 hour emergency contact number prior to or on the first day of your trip; you will not be able to join the trip without these details.
If you have travel insurance connected to your credit card or bank account please ensure you have details of the participating insurer, the insurance policy number and emergency contact number with you rather than the bank's name and credit card details.

In such circumstances the additional cost of any necessary itinerary alterations will be covered by you. Please note we are not responsible for any incidental expenses that may be incurred as a result of the change of itinerary such as visas, vaccinations or non-refundable flights.
